Our God is a terrifyingly holy God. His holy presence is like a nuclear reactor: it is dangerous for sinners to approach without any kind of protection or mediation. We don't deserve to be in his presence, and we don't have any right to claim such an awesome privilege. On our own, without any permission or sanctification or mediation granted to us by God, God's presence would obliterate us. This understanding of God is not popular or well understood in our Australian, egalitarian society that despises hierarchy and has tall poppy syndrome.
